This one is simple to decide once you know the math. If you want your own lashes to look better with almost no upkeep, book a lift. If you want more lashes than you walked in with and you do not mind a fill every two to three weeks, book extensions.
The 60-second comparison
- Lash lift: ~60 minutes, lasts 6–8 weeks, no fills, costs less per year
- Lash extensions: ~2 hours for the full set, fills every 2–3 weeks, costs more per year but reads as fuller every single day
- Lash lift uses your own lashes; extensions add synthetic lashes to each natural lash
- Both are safe when done by a trained tech — neither one ruins your natural lashes if you take care of them
Pick a lash lift when
- You like your own lashes and just wish they looked up instead of straight out
- You wear glasses (lifted lashes do not smush against the lens)
- You want a low-maintenance routine — no daily mascara, no fill schedule
- Your work or kids do not leave room for an appointment every two weeks
- You want to test the waters before committing to extensions
Pick lash extensions when
- You want a noticeable, fuller look every day with zero mascara
- You have a wedding, vacation, or photo shoot and want them to peak
- You are okay with a fill every 2–3 weeks (about 60–75 minutes per fill)
- You sleep on your back or do not mind switching to a silk pillowcase
- You can avoid oil-based cleansers, which break down the adhesive
Aftercare that actually keeps them looking good
- No water on the lashes for 24 hours after either service
- Skip the sauna, steam room, and hot yoga for the first 24 hours
- Use a foaming lash cleanser (not micellar water) every other day for extensions
- No oil-based makeup remover or moisturizer near the lash line
- Stop pulling at them when they molt — your natural lash comes with it if you tug
Booking strategy for events
For lifts: book 5–7 days before the event so the curl has settled. Right after a lift the curl is at its sharpest, which photographs slightly stiff. Five days in is the sweet spot.
For extensions: book the initial set 2–3 weeks before the event, then a fill 2–3 days before. That gives you the full look on the day without the post-fill stiffness.
